LAWRENCE – Shirley Martin-Smith, Board President, Dwayne Peaslee Technical Training Center, announced today that Dr. Kevin Kelley has been named the first Chief Executive Officer of Peaslee Tech.

Since 2017, 26 new programs have been developed and implemented at Peaslee Tech. In 2019, there were more 2,200 course enrollments in Peaslee Tech and affiliate courses. The expansion of programs has resulted in the growth of instructional personnel and administrative staff. In the last two years, the Peaslee Tech staff has grown from an Executive Director and a part-time administrative assistant to six non-instructional staff and 32 instructors.

“The 2017 Kansas Board of Regents approval of Peaslee Tech as a postsecondary institution, along with the approval of nine apprenticeship programs by the Kansas Apprenticeship Commission, has resulted not only in significant growth in the number of students and companies served, but also in the scope of responsibilities for Dr. Kelley. In recognition of his evolving role, the Peaslee Tech Board of Directors reclassified Dr. Kelley’s position from Executive Director to Chief Executive Officer at our 2020 Annual Meeting,” said Shirley Martin-Smith, Board President.

Located at 2920 Haskell Avenue, the Peaslee Tech’s mission is to be a catalyst for economic growth by providing access to technical training to a diverse community of learners to meet the current and emerging needs of our communities and employers.
